Offline PDF Editor Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 9, 2026
Offline PDF Editor: Private PDF Annotator & Organizer is a Chrome extension that opens a PDF workspace in its own tab. It is built on PDFCraft, an open-source PDF engine written in Rust. This policy explains what the extension handles, where it keeps it, and what it never does.
The short version
Your documents never leave your computer. Offline PDF Editor has no server. There is no account to create, nothing to sign in to, and no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting code anywhere in it. Opening, annotating, organizing and saving PDFs all happen in the extension tab, on your machine. All of its code and fonts are bundled with the extension, so it works with no internet connection at all, which is the simplest way to check this claim for yourself.
What it handles while you work
To provide its PDF tools, the extension processes the following in the tab's memory, on your device:
- Your documents: the PDFs you choose with the file picker or drag and drop, including their text, pages, form entries, comments, drawings and edits. Documents can contain personal or sensitive information; that content stays local.
- PDF passwords: a password you type to open or protect a PDF is used only for that document. It is never saved in the extension's preferences.
What it stores, and where
Some preferences and saved tools are kept in Chrome's storage for the extension, on this computer. None of it is synced to any account and none of it is transmitted.
- Settings: theme, layout and similar preferences.
- Recent files: information that lets the app list documents you opened recently.
- Your identity in comments: an optional author name for comments, if you set one.
- Signatures and initials: if you save them for reuse.
- Saved tools: custom stamps and actions, trusted certificates and digital-ID references, if you add them.
The extension does not add its own encryption to this browser storage. You can clear saved information through the app's controls. Removing the extension clears all of its storage permanently. Files you saved or downloaded stay where you saved them. There is no copy anywhere else, including with us.
What it sends
Nothing. No document, page, file name, password, signature, usage statistic, error report or identifier is transmitted to Unit09 or to any third party. There is no endpoint to send it to. The extension does not fetch PDFs from websites: to work on a PDF you found online, download it first and open the local file.
If you click a link inside a document, it opens in a separate tab, and that website's own privacy policy applies to the visit.
Permissions
Offline PDF Editor requests no browser permissions and no access to any website. Clicking its toolbar icon opens a page packaged inside the extension. It reads only the files you explicitly choose to open, and it cannot read your browsing history or the pages you visit.
What leaves your computer when you choose to send it
Saving a PDF downloads it to the location you choose. From that point the file is governed by wherever you keep or send it, not by Offline PDF Editor.
Limited use
Locally handled user data is used only to provide the extension's PDF features. It is never sold, never used for advertising, credit-worthiness or lending, and never used for anything unrelated to those features, consistent with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Children
Offline PDF Editor collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If a future version changes how data is handled, this policy will be updated and the "Last updated" date revised before that version is published to the Chrome Web Store.
